Oh What a Year Will Bring

That time again.  Time for a new year and new things and getting older!  Ack!  I feel as if I was just posting a new year's post like this one yesterday.  Time really does fly.  I was watching the Bug last night and had one of those 'holy crap' moments like how in the world do I have a 3 year old? And how is it that yesterday I could feel her kicking in my belly and now she's running around, having full conversations with me and is just being, well like a little lady?  Just doesn't seem possible at all!

In my reflection over the past year there are so many things that have happened that have re-shaped me in one way or another.  Last year at this time I felt like a discombobulated mess of crazy and this year I have a calm, serene feeling all around me.  I don't make resolutions because I don't believe it that stuff at all.  I mean why not just do what you want to do in the moment you decide to do it?  Don't pick a start date - JUST START!  There are several things I would like to accomplish this year, goals I've set for myself, attainable goals that further me on the path I am currently taking.  Most of mine are overall health, (mental and physical) and fitness.  I have a new favorite CrossFit athlete and she kicks some serious ass - hello new inspiration and motivation! {her name is Christmas Abbott if you find yourself so inclined to check out her awesomeness}. I also always say I'll do better about posting on this blog.  And I usually don't.  So I won't even say that this year.  Sometimes I get the urge to write lots of things and other times I'm a women of less words - although never no words - you all know I LOVE to talk!

In similar 'holy heck I have a 3year old' news, Santa brought a big girl bike this year.  I was a bit worried that Bug would have a hard time with it.  I should have known I would be proven wrong.  She's got it down like a pro.  She's a daredevil, nothing scares her.  Check it out!

She also got a scooter from Pappy and Gigi - look out summer time here we come!

Buggy got her first stomach bug over the weekend.  She had never thrown up before.  Even as a baby she spit up very rarely.  So as gross as it is I had to document it as a first!

I've decided if we don't think about the whole peeing the bed/pull up ordeal and don't make a fuss out of it the problem just seems to not be a problem.  At this point she goes to sleep in panties and we deal with the mess if she has one (usually 2 out of 7 nights or so).  But randomly the other night she asked for a little bit of a drink before bed.  I said sure you can have some IF you wear a pull up to sleep in. And she said ok.  That's it.  Ok.  No fights, no tears, no screams.  And it's been going that way since.  Totally agreeable.  It's possible my temper tantrum laden Bug has been replaced with a new mild mannered Bug.  And I'll take it for as long as it lasts!

Santa also put some new Disney music in the Bug's stocking - out with Barney, in with Disney!! yay! :0)

Here's to a happy, prosperous, glorious and all around wonderful 2013!!!

A Simple Mind

A large box arrived at the house yesterday from Grandma Kim full of presents and packing peanuts.  Oh the joy of packing peanuts right!?  But when I looked at the packaging for the packing peanuts I saw that to dispose of you were to disintegrate in water.  Well being the skeptic I am I wasn't too sure about that.  Experiment time!  I loaded up the sink with the little goodies and sprayed them down.  Check it out!!

{Bye bye packing peanuts!}

Thoroughly impressed was I so I had to share with all of you!  And yes this was more exciting to me than the box full of gifts - I'm so easily amused!

Some quick Buggyism's:

* While getting ready to check out at Aldi last week - 'Mommy I don't want go home, I wanna shake my booty!'

*  She now knows days of the week.  She knows if she behaves all week I will take her to Sheetz (oh glorious Sheetz) on Friday morning for some goodies.  So last night on the way home she says 'I wanna go to Sheetz tomorrow, but I have to be good and listen and not fight and not have a tantrum!'  Now if only those things happened ALL the time!

*Finding Dobby our Elf on the Shelf is ever entertaining.  He's been a little rotten at times this year and Bug gets a kick out of yelling at him when he does.  (I've snapped pictures of all his appearances and will share after Christmas)

*She's been talking a lot about sweating lately.  She always wants to run with me when I go running and has shown great interest in working out in the garage.  (and I'll DEF take that).  She says that she works out so she can sweat, cutest thing ever.  She told me yesterday then went to play 'soccer ball' and she was sweating because it was a good work out!  Haha, gotta love it!

Merry Christmas All!!

Who in the world....

Decides to take this song and make it into a children's version of  'Kid's Bop'
 and put it on a CD and put it into a kids meal at a fast food restaurant?'

Well someone did.  I found this 'Kid's Bop' CD in Buggy's stuff over the weekend (I don't know where it came from or how long it's been in the abyss that is the Bug's closet) and took the CD to the car so we could listen to it.  There are only 5 tracks on the disc.  One is an original Kid's Bop something.  The other 4 are fairly popular R&B type songs made into a kid's version.  I just don't get this one.  I like the song above - it's a good peppy tune for a workout or whatever.  But if you listen to the lyrics closely I just cannot comprehend why someone would think 'oh, let's make a children's song out of this!'  and OF COURSE this song is the Bug's favorite on the disc.  Since Monday morning when I put it in the car she says to me 'play my songs' and when I put the disc on she says 'no the other one' and then tells me to stop when I get to this song.  There are no 'rough' lyrics per say in the Kid's Bop version but still.  I'm baffled.  And now Buggy knows all the words to this version and I have to admit it's pretty cute to watch her sing it.

The girl picks up on song lyrics wicked quick.  I overhear her singing the correct words to lots of songs I don't even know all the words to.  I think she's destined to be a star in one way or another.  And I'll take that.

Santa Clause is bringing some new CD's - Disney style CD's - for the Bug's stocking.  So soon I will know all the words to those.  And yes I'll probably like the songs.  I may have already downloaded a few from Disney for my own play lists.  Maaaaaybe! :)'

Lack of a Visual

i ran out of picture space on my blog.  how does this happen?  i didn't even know it could happen.  well i supposed i did i just never imagined it WOULD happen!  but i suppose it has been almost 2 years since i started the blog and well we all know how much i LOVE pictures.  so i'm in the process of trying to figure out a solution to my no more picture space dilemma.  in the meantime this blog will be picutre-less, but hopefully not totally boring!!

there have been lots of fun things going on since my last post.  most of which you will probably find a lot more entertaining if i had pictures.  so i will save those things for when i figure out that little situation.  i had to share a wuick buggyism that had me cracking up.  i'm not sure how it will come across in type but when she said it in person i just could not contain myself.

-i had been texting lilly's mommy about something and she mentioned that lilly had convinced them to go to feeney's - you know, the BEST fro yo place around - and i said to the bug 'hey lilly is at your favorite place, feeneys!'  she replies 'oh she must have wanted to go to feeney's - like me.  everyday.'  cracks my butt up.  just so matter of fact that she wants to go there everyday.  the girl is ridiculous.

i've also been extremely impressed with her memory lately.  she can recall things from so long ago - some things that i don't even really remember.  she's impressive when she busts out her smart little brain power.  we are into week 3 of her new classroom and so far things are going very well.  she comes home most everyday with a new worksheet of exercises.  i really like that this class is more 'school' oriented.  and very glad she's doing so well with it!

so for now that will be all.  i'll work on this whole lack of picture thing.

have a great tuesday!

A Rant (and a Rave)

I was shopping at Friendly Center last weekend and some thoughts occurred to me.  You know how that goes, ‘hmmm I wonder how this got to be the way it is’ type thoughts.  Similar to my question of who designed the bathrooms in an airport I started wondering who in the world designed the interior layout of children’s stores?  The only answer I could come up with was ‘obviously not someone who has or ever had children!’
My first qualm I already know the answer to – why put small toys and other objects within reach of children – those in strollers and those walking on their own?  A sales gimmick to get parents to have to give in to the whines, cries and shrieks of their children who want to have one (or numerous) of these gadgets.  Do they not also realize this is why their store is a complete and utter disaster at the end of the day?  And in reality I’m guessing there a fewer parents who actually end up buying those gadgets than those who don’t.  Yes there are always those ‘give in’ moments but truthfully it ends up being more of a cluster type thing in my world – buggy screaming to buy certain gadget, me telling her ‘no you don’t need it’ and to put it back, or ‘no you have one at home’ and to put it back, or ‘no you are too young for that’ and to put it back.  Something of that nature.  Which results in more crying, whining and potential hitting (there is no reasoning when they are 3) causing me to get that red flushed – ‘ohmygoodness my kid is about to cause a really big scene’ face, then grabbing the gadget from her, grabbing her (at this point kicking and screaming) and removing myself from the store as humanely and quietly (is that possible at this point?) as possible.  End result = I probably didn’t buy the things I NEEDED in the store let alone the gadget they have so thoughtfully placed within the Bug’s reach.  So awesome sales ploy?  Eh, probably not the best when truly thought out - but what do I know!?
Now onto my second qualm about children’s stores.  It’s like impossible to maneuver a stroller inside one of these stores.  And who really will be the people coming inside to shop?  Mothers, fathers, people with children AND STROLLERS?  Yea those would be the ones.  And yes sometimes us parents get out of the house without the children, strollers and all the comes with that, but more often than not we have all of that in tow.  So why make it so darn difficult to look at what needs to be looked at while at the same time strolling with your stroller and child(ren)? Clear, WIDE, paths of travel would be sheer genius!!  No running the twisting wheels into the clothing racks, or into the back of the legs of someone who is shopping in front of you simply because you didn’t see them because you were too busy working your way around the clothing racks with the stroller and at the same time trying to contain your child within that stroller.  A simple request I would think.  Yet I can’t name ONE children’s store that is set up to accommodate those that will be shopping  within it.
Ok I think that’s all for my rant today.  On to a few Buggy things.  Although she hasn’t started her dance class yet - she’s due to start the week of November 19 – which also marks the date of moving up into the 3’s class at school.  Oh my, she’s growing up too fast.  She’s really into these cute little tumbling and dance moves that she must have picked up somewhere in her daily living.  She’s super active and is always (ALWAYS) on the move.

{some impromptu tumbling}

{doing a broad jump - my future Crossfitter}
Since she’s been 3 things have been interesting.  And trying.  But more so trying than anything.  She has more attitude now that I would have though could fit into her tiny self.  She packs a punch of serious 17 year old in that 3 year old body.  EVERYTHING, no exaggeration there, is a fight with her.  Agreeable she is not.  Moody she definitely is!  Heaven help me please let 4 be easier!

{all my kids tuckered out and cuddled up <3}

{possibly has her mama's OCD affliction - once she lined them all up she had to put them all away on her own and where SHE wanted them to go}

{little miss attitude is more like it!}

And finally Halloween.  Buggy went as Rapunzel this year but for the majority of the time she was in costume she did not wear the adorable crown of braided hair.  We were lucky enough to get to trick or treat twice with some wonderful friends.  Miss Kayla and the little Buggy are for sure the MOST adorable Rapunzel’s I have ever seen!  And the night we went with Lilly - Buggy had some attitude so she went as ‘disheveled Rapunzel minus the hair!’  But the two of them sure do make gorgeous princesses.  Thank heavens for beautiful little girls!

{double Rapunzel's!}

{you can tell by the blur - princesses on the move}

{happy halloween}

That is all folks!

Unjunked

Quick post on some really good candy I discovered thanks to good old Sheetz!  This stuff is very good and the whole idea of it is to take out the 'bad' stuff in the candy - the artificial color, flavor, perservatives, partially hydrogenated oils - ICK!  Check out their site for some more details - and how fun that a 13 year old started it all!?  I tried the peanut butter cup one first and I think it tastes better than a Reese's cup! It just tastes good.  And I know just because it's been 'un-junked' doesn't make it healthy per se but I feel slightly better about eating this stuff than some of the others!

Happy Monday - candy makes a Monday better!

'I be up in the gym just workin' on my fitness'

A break in the Buggy action to do a little update on the Buggy Mama and some fitness - and for some reason while writing this last line I thought of the Fergie song with the line I used for the title of this one, yes it's been a long week and I'm slightly delirious!

I've been pushing myself a bit harder lately both in CrossFit and in running.  I have recently set 2 goals for myself - although neither have a deadline & both are running related - I only wish to complete them in a reasonable amount of time.

* Goal 1 = Run a 5K (3.2 miles) in under 30 minutes
My current best time is 30:31 - oh so close!

* Goal 2 = Run the entire distance of Salem Lake - a total of 6.94 miles.
I've completed 5.02 miles of the lake so far

And I really pushed myself yesterday during the W.O.D.  I used a weight that I hadn't ever tried before for the exercises - and lemme tell ya do I feel it today!
Basically I'm tired of staying stagnant in workouts.  Time to push myself to the next level!!

Now comes in this crazy thing I decided to do with my friend Renee.  The Pilot Mountain Challenge 5K on December 15.  So, I've done lots of 5K's before and the thought of running up beautiful Pilot Mountain intrigues me.  But then Renee sent me a link to a guy's bog who did the P.M. 5K last year - and documented it with words and pictures.  Gorgeous pictures - but now I'm a little scared!  What did I get myself into?? My plan was always to enjoy the run, not push myself to much to adhere to a strict 5K time and to have fun.  Reading that blog reiterates that - so adding to that plan is to take some really pretty pictures while I enjoy this crazy run!

Here's to running my butt off!!
Happy Weekend All!!!

Buggy Bonanza!

Buggy updates - mostly in pictures - because she's just so darn cute.

We've entered the 'what in the heck was i thinking saying terrible 2's when the 3's are so much worse' phase of the Buggy's life.  She's been 3 for 14 days and they have been a rough 14 days.  I mean it's almost like a switch has been flipped.  Or maybe it's because her tantrums are more grownup like now.  I'm not sure but I know I've had a lot more headaches and 'pull my hair out' moments!

{at her 3 year old check up - she's 3'2" tall - a mini person!}

{being gangster like in leggings - because that is ALL she will wear*}
*more to come on the leggings issue

{trying on Mommy's boots}

{being crazy - this usually happens right around 8pm each night, yes in other words, bedtime, which never happens when it's supposed to}

{rockstar/little angel face}

{passed out after a long day of being Buggy!}

{a quick pose before school one morning}

{Buggy faces - there are oh so many and i love each and every one!}

{hanging the Halloween clingers on her bathroom mirror.  she only had to take them down and re place them about 8 times.  she's def inherited my OCD}

*So now, let's take a minute and discuss my current Buggy cross to bear - LEGGINGS!  She has become obsessed.  She won't wear anything else.  Every morning it MUST be leggings.  Ok I guess i get it.  They are comfortable.  But she doesn't have enough shirts/dresses that she can wear with leggings all the time.  One of the pictures is from this morning and she is wearing hot pink skinny jeans.  So we got those one - BUT - i think it's only because they are size 2T and since are a little snug fit like leggings!  So i told her i was going to return all the pants she got for her birthday and buy things to wear over leggings.  She said ok.  Go figure!

And a quick potty training update - Bug had been wearing pull ups at night.  Then earlier this week we ran out of pull ups (whoops) so we had to let her sleep in panties.  Which ended in pee in 2 of the 3 beds in the house!  Out of the 4 nights she hasn't worn a pull up only 1 was completely dry.  So she's getting there - she's just such a hard sleeper that she doesn't wake up when she has to go!  Here's to hoping she gets the overnight part of the training down as quick as she did the rest of it!

Happy Friday!

A Buggy 3rd Birthday

My little Bug turned 3!!  (and I must say it's been terrible three's since she has, much worse than the two's - but I'll save that for a later post!)  We had a great birthday celebration with pizza, an icecream sundae bar, cupcakes and lots of fun.  Buggy made out and keeps talking about her awesome party.  Thank you all who came over to have fun with the little Buggy!  Here's a few pictures (out of TONS) to recap the day's events.

{birthday celebration at school - Buggy picked Oreos for her treat}

{someone is going to wake up to something special!}

{she claimed to 'not be able to get out' for several minutes before hitting the balloons out of the way}

{the goodies}

{birthday girl ready for her party!}

{there sure is a little crazy in there - she gets it honest}

{brayden rocking the tricycle}

{Happy Birthday To You....}

{a bouncy house break}

{sassy girls}

Happy 3rd Birthday to my sweet little Buggy!!

The Kid Just Cracks Me Up!

Oh, Tuesday.  Not close enough to the end of the week at all, not at all.  *sigh*

Just a quick post for today.   This past weekend we spent some time with new friends we met through Buggy's school.  Miss Kayla is a few months younger than Bug and the two of them have grown quite fond of each other.  We spent Sunday afternoon at her house with her parents - it's so nice to watch the girls play and create memories while getting to know her parents too.   I love meeting other mama's that I can talk so easily too!

{kayla & buggy posing with their babies}

On to some Buggysims!

The kid just never ceases to crack me up.

- One day last week as we were driving home from school we passed a bicyclist riding on the side of the road (and let's please not get me started on bikers and their incessant need to ride IN the road, and NOT move for cars - i mean the last time i checked roads were made for cars so these bikers can at least have the decency to watch for the cars driving on them, i mean you don't own the road, i share with you, you should do the same).  Ok slight rant, back on track now. The biker was wearing only gym shorts and no shirt (another thing that drives me INSANE but i'll stay on track this time!) So Buggy says 'Mommy, why is he wearing panties only?'  I couldn't help but crack up!

-Another thing that happens while we are in the car is her bossiness over the radio and what songs are to be played and what songs are not to be played.  For a while we went through a phase where NO songs sung by a 'boy' were allowed to be played, see those songs aren't for girls according to the Bug, and we could only listen to songs sung by 'girls.'  Now we are just on to listening to whichever song BUGGY wants.  My opinion means nada.  And sometimes if there is a commercial on with a jingle and I switch, you'd think I posed a war - she is NOT having it.  I will hear from the backseat of the car through gritted teeth - 'I DO NOT like this song, turn it back!' She's lucky she's so doggone cute!

-The Bug knows what she wants.  And recently this has been to have her pant legs rolled up - no matter what pants she may be wearing.  Over the summer I have rolled her pant legs to convert them to capris (I do this with my pants sometimes too) and I guess she liked that.  So yesterday she wore the 'ugly pants' (black stretchy pants that are like sweat pants only slightly cuter, but not much) and HAD to have them rolled up.  And again it's one of those battles I chose not to fight and just let her roll them.  The pic below is from this morning - at least I got her to only roll them once! Ha.

{yea so this morning she had a bowl of M&M's for breakfast - i know i won't win any mom of the year awards for this but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get out of the house on time!}

A Bit of the Odd & Interesting

Have you seen this?

It's water.  And if you look even closer you can see that it's black water. I was lured in by the cool looking bottle and the cool abbreviation for the word black (yes i am easily enticed by the little things.)  But see I thought the bottle was black.  But it's not.  Nope - it's the water itself that is black.  Don't believe me?  Check this out.

Yep black water.  Seems like you'd be pouring a pop or something.  But then you take a sip and it's nice and refreshing, good old H2O.  The bottle says 'Alaline Fulvic Trace Mineral Infused Water.'  I don't know what that means.  Or why it's black.  I was merely intrigued by it so I had to try for myself.  And how cool that there is a secret message in the bottle itself - look closely - it's says 'Enjoy the Dark Side.'  I mean, ya gotta admit, that's pretty cool.

Now something else that is cool is this little doo hickey I found at Toys R' Us over the weekend.

It's a float maker.  You put a scoop of ice cream in the little ice cream cup and then pour your favorite float drink in a cup (or you could use a soda can if you had one) and then sip through the straw and VOILA - instant ice cream float.  Pretty ingenious I think.  The best part of this little invention?  It was only .60 cents!  Yes Bug and I both got one, just for fun, and since it works really well I think it was well worth the $1.20!  :O)

I had hoped to show you a cute picture of the Bug in her jammies at school today - it's PJ day today and all the kids this morning were so cute.  Bug however had a different idea for her outfit today - regular clothes.  She asks at least twice a week if she can wear her jammies to school so go figure on the day that she actually CAN she doesn't want to.  Ha.  She is most definitely a piece of work.

One quick Buggyism for today.  A recent thing that makes me smile.  When asked if she wants to do something instead of a simple yes or no she will say 'hmmmm, probably no' or 'hmmm, probably yes.'

Hope your Monday has been great! 4 more days to the weekend!

Oh Pinterest...How I Love Thee

So I think most women can at least say they've heard of Pinterest and more than likely have probably become somewhat addicted to it (and maybe some men too, who knows).  I for sure have.  And because it is oh so convenient on my phone too it's so easy to get caught up in all the glamour of it!  Although I like to think I'm pretty crafty I'm really not.  So I pin a lot of things that I think look easy and then dissect them a few times before attempting them.    I've tried some of the recipes with mostly successful results and this past week have tried two of the craft projects I had pinned.  I am super happy with them both.  Check them out and lemme know what you think?  One is definitely more difficult than the other but I think they both came out very cute and I have a little more faith in myself to try things even more difficult.  Bring on the pins Pinterest, bring them on!!

{a little cork board of wine corks, after gluing and then hung on the dining room wall}

{i am in love with this.  such a cute little touch.  not that we have lots of people over but i always keep the bathroom door shut and those who have been over have asked where it is.  so now there is no question that the room is in fact a bathroom and not a closet or something}

I have lots of projects milling around in my head now.  Oh the possibilities!

Rockin' the Random

Is it ever really a happy Monday? I say not.  I'm just not a Monday person.  I do better  on Tuesdays for whatever reason.  So here's a happy little blog to help me push through the fact that it is Monday.  Not too much going on aside from some pink ice cream party birthday details for the upcoming big #3 for Buggy.  She's so excited! Which brings me to some Buggyism's that have this mama cracking up these days:

-after saying something and probably checking to see if you were really paying attention - "do you understand?" (i also say this to her when telling her things she needs to do or listen to me about)

-at random times - "I need to tell you something."  She'll then proceed to tell you exactly that - something - my favorite is when she says it and then it's followed by "I love you."

- I sometimes say to her "If you behave here you can do this" to get her to pay attention to what she is doing and realize if she can behave through this thing she doesn't really want to do she can do something she really does want to do later.  Then I'll say "Do we have a deal?"  So now she goes around saying "it's not a deal" just to say it.  Occasionally she'll say it in content to something but most times not.  Too cute!

- The other day in the car on the way to school she sneezed and afterwards said "that'll get the boogers out!"  I mean really?  Where DOES she come from?!

- She seems to be more appreciative of food these days.  She has always been a really good eater and will try anything at least once but lately after taking a bite of something she'll say "this is good________" and it's been smoothie, carrots, chicken, cookie, whatever she may be eating.

I haven't given a potty update in a while either.  Not intentionally it has just sort of slipped my mind because, well, she's TRAINED!  She hasn't had any accidents in weeks and always tells us when she needs to go.  She's even to the point now of just going on her own, handing all the business 'by her big self.' She's still doing a pull up at night JUST.IN.CASE. but 9 times out of 10 she wakes up dry!  Go Buggy!!

{went to IKEA this past weekend with our fav girls and these 2 made themselves right at home, posing in various locations! i love how Soph is poking her sweet little face between Bug's arm in this one}

{found some awesome clearance at the Disney store - here's the girls checking out their new cameras - they've definitely been bitten by the 'shutter bug' just like their mommy's!}

{just cracks my butt up. hanging out in her new flops (no backs, she's moving up & another great clearance deal at the Disney store) without a care in the world!}

And to random.  my co-worker Tracey got a video sent to her about how to easily separate an egg yolk from the white.  The video was in Japanese so we had no idea what it said but it looked pretty easy.  So we tried for ourselves.  Check it out.  I think I'll be using this method for sure!

{hello, how easy was that!?}
